We’re delighted to announce that work has begun on our two-year partnership with Manchester’s acclaimed music organisation and venue, Band on the Wall, to deliver the innovative programme World of Song, which is supported by the National Heritage Lottery Fund
World of Music responds to the significant movement of new migrants to the region, including those who have experienced forced migration.
Those new communities bring rich music heritages from their countries of origin to the UK. Yet people from these communities can face significant barriers in accessing mainstream culture, arts, and heritage, meaning their musical traditions are often invisible.
World of Song will explore and celebrate the rich diversity of musical cultures that new migrants bring to the region, and the new music that is emerging as these sound worlds collide.
We believe a diversity of music from around the world enriches Greater Manchester’s internationally renowned music scene and that of the UK.
The exciting partnership between 2024 and 2026 will deliver six programmes for people who have migrated to Greater Manchester.
Two projects, Spotlight, capacity building for bands and solo musicians, and Without Borders for young people, have launched this autumn.
Spotlight is a capacity-building initiative for adult singers, musicians, and bands. It will develop their knowledge of the UK’s music industry, grow their profile, and create opportunities through gigs at festivals and showcases.

Without Borders is for young people from the global diaspora who are aged between 13 to 18. The programme will support them in creating a band with opportunities to create new music, perform and record.
